Swaddlebees looked
great but leaked ALL over.
Tried a MotherEase one-size diaper, which absorbs
fine, but makes our girl very unstable because of all the stuff between
her legs!
Fuzzibunz covers (S/M) used with an infant prefold - hemp
or Chinese - work well, especially at night.
Best fit we've found is Bummis SuperWhisper wrap
with infant/premium Chinese prefolds. Low maintenance
and inexpensive, too. And with how skinny she is, her pants actually
stay up!
(Inge's note: sounds like
she was too skinny for the Swaddlebees and fit is critical to function
with pocket diaper. Babes with differences in leg and waist have the
hardest time finding a pocket with good fit.)

for most of that time ... lots of good/great things ... just nothing

I think she's just about
22 pounds; average built except a very long body, I guess her butt
and thighs are kind of chubby which with her average waist makes for
a gap in the front of many diapers and covers because of lack of stretch
or adjustability.
Any fitted or AIO that has
a short ("trim" ugh!) rise does not work for us. For example,
as wonderful as Rumpsters look, their regular sizing
(haven't tried a new long if they're out) does not work for us at
all. Many diapers that only have one row of snaps across the front
also don't work well as they either are too loose on the waist and/or
gap at the bell or are too tight on the thighs or both! Side snap
diapers often leave us with other fit issues and need to be exactly
the right size to work.
Kissaluvs do fit really well though thanks to the stretch.
Adjustability and stretchiness seem to work the best for us. Now that
containment isn't as much of an issue I'm using fewer fitted diapers
though and more flats, prefolds, etc. I don't have as much of a problems
with covers fitting and can often use a wide range of cover sizes
as long as it fits over the diaper(s) I'm using. I do need either
nice strechy waistbands or velcro or snaps that offer lots of adjustablity
(overlapping) is nice in order to deal with the waist fit issue but
most covers seem to have that.

adjusted, she was 13 weeks premature)
Weight (in lbs) 9 lbs; Length is 18 3/4 inches
Prowraps size preemie
works well for her short rise-these started fitting at 5 lbs (when
she was about 14 weeks old) and still fit now. they are getting snug
in the waist but still fit well for her rise. they contain poo and
pee very well! these are great covers! Kushies Ultra (all-in-one)
Preemies are too bulky and the tabs do not accomodate her
belly circumference, but the rise is okay. the kushies Newborn Ultra
(all-in-one) size has a very high rise, too high even now with her
being over 18 inches long and i do not like the way the tabs are in
front with this size either.. the gussets (crotch area) do not lie
snug against her skin, so poo and pee seeping out is an issue. I wouldnt
reccomend these for short babies or babies with average-chunky bellys. Fuzzi Bunz size
small... way too big!!!! not only in rise but also the waist.
it will be a while before she can get use out of this size.I am a
big FB fan & I am going to order the preemie size and see how
that works.
Snappied infant CPF
with small pull-on Dappi pants - fine no leaks even though leg-holes
look a little big. Aristocrat (small) - no leaks. Tend to use these
in the house during day or at night as very bulky. Swaddlebee snap pockets (small) - very trim but outer
gets wet with hemp-inserts. Insert is totally soaked, do not leak
with infant cpf but very bulky, or with microfibre towel inserted
in pocket along with swaddlebee hemp-insert (not quite as bulky).
Rumpster - AIO (small) print, have not had any leaks. Bum genius - husbands favourite, although he prefers
me to stuff them as he has large hands. No leaks.
I like the look of snaps, but prefer aplix as easier to get a better
fit. I change his nappy through the night.

I found the swaddlebees
medium size fleece cover fits low on the rise. It works well
with size 1 Kissaluvs. They come up to just below the navel on my
son. Trying to fit a premium size prefold in this cover results in
a lot of bulk. It doesn't work with any other fitted that I have.
If I decide to buy any more I will probably want to size up. Kissalus size 1 fitteds fit well, they are nice and
stretchy, there is still some room to grow, however the rise is pretty
low, fitting at least 1-2 fingerbreadths below the navel. I prefer
a higher rise, so these are not among my favorites.
I love the Bummis Super Whisper Wraps! I have size
mediums. These fit great with lots of room to grow and work with all
of my diapers requiring a cover. Ditto for the Stacinator
merino stretch daytime wool cover. I use the second snap
from outside towards the center, I get no markings at the leg and
waist on this setting. Fuzzi bunz size medium fits great with plenty of
room to grow. I use the middle snap at both the leg and waist with
no marks and no leaks. The rise is high, it fits a good two fingerbreadths
above the navel. We don't mind, though.
I use premium size prefolds. They fit well in the
Bummis wrap covers annd the stacinator wool cover, but I do have to
fold down a little in the front, otherwise they extend above the covers.
Even so the bulk is not too much.

Fuzzi bunz
(mediums) don’t fit my son very well; they leave gaps around the
thighs, even on the tightest setting, and even after a lot of adjusting,
etc. Bum Genius
dipes fit my son very well (on the middle setting) Bummis super whisper
wraps (size Medium) fit my son very well (probably the best
of all) Stacinator deluxe
fleece covers (medium) fit my son well on the tightest setting Swaddlebees fitteds
(medium) fit my son on the middle setting very well and contain blowouts
really well. These probably fit him the best of any diaper we’ve
used in the past 7 months!!! Cotton babies inserts
seem a bit too long for fuzzi bunz (medium) and bum
genius dipes (on the middle setting) Mother of eden inserts
and doublers work really well in fb and bg
dipes. Happy heiny’s
hemp ovals work very well overnight for absorbency and don’t
add bulk. Premium size prefolds
work fairly well on my son if we use a bummis super whisper
wrap and a snappi. Infant size prefolds
worked well as doublers in fb for a while, but seemed to add to much
bulk and sometimes caused leaks. They also seemed to stretch out the
elastic in the fb. Happy heiny’s
print pocket dipes did not fit my son well. Even when fastened
tightly they seemed to get baggy in between his legs.

In the meantime I obtained
both a sample of Mommy’s Touch and BumGenius
to compare. My husband liked the convenience of the BumGenius diaper
– it was the first one we received. When he saw the Mommy’s
Touch, he simply said “Can you say ‘More trouble’?”
I think all these buttons scared him!
I’m still not sure if
I could figure out the medium setting in a correct way (Mommy’s
Touch). What I like about it is the sturdier outer fabric – that
of the BumGenius seems much thinner?
I like the flap over the pocket.
Mommy’s Touch does not have it, and I wonder if that might cause
a problem (a.k.a. leaking).
BTW, I took both diapers to
a friend’s house to try them on her children. The Mommy’s
Touch fit both the 3 month old baby (forgot the weight), and the 3 year
old toddler, ca. 34 pounds, with a button on each side to spare. BTW,
the toddler is not fat, but on the stocky side. I could not check the
BumGenius with the toddler, as the baby went ahead and used it! LOL
I found the inserts rather
bulky, but I know that, for a little baby, one should have smaller inserts
anyway. A friend of mine said the inserts are supposed to be folded?
I asked her if they are meant to go from front to back of the diaper
when you insert them, or if that means the insert is too big.
I guess the jury is still
out for the choice of diapers! ;-)
